Bristle club-rush

Isolepis setacea
Family: Cyperaceae

Fire effect on plant

Bristle club-rush is likely killed by fire.

Key traits

Annual herb of damp soils (Klimešová et al. 2017). Plants lack specific dispersal features, resulting in low dispersal distances (0.1–1 m; Lososová et al. 2023). Fire effects on seeds have not been described.

Plant response to fire

The fire response of bristle club-rush is not described in the literature, but its annual life history means fire will most likely cause mortality. Seeds will likely be protected from fire by the damp soil in its habitat.

Timing of life history

Annual species. Seeds produced within one growing season. Flowering May to September.

Conservation status

None.
